Amsterdam Tavern

Amsterdam Tavern

St. Louis's premier soccer bar since 2008. Located in Tower Grove South with walls covered in scarves and jerseys from dozens of European clubs, Amsterdam Tavern opens early every weekend morning for Premier League and European matches. Named a top soccer bar in America by Sauce Magazine, with craft beers and food from neighboring restaurant The Dam.

About

Amsterdam Tavern has been the heartbeat of St. Louis soccer since 2008, when it opened in the Tower Grove South neighborhood at 3175 Morganford Road. For nearly two decades, this bar has served as the city's definitive gathering place for the beautiful game, earning a nomination for America's Best Soccer Bar from the Men in Blazers podcast. Co-owner Jeff Lyell told Sauce Magazine that "the thing that makes us different is that everyone comes to our bar and we show all the matches, and everybody gets along."

The Soccer Experience

Walk into Amsterdam Tavern and the identity is unmistakable. Scarves from dozens of European clubs hang from the ceiling and cover the walls, with Arsenal and Ajax getting the most prominent displays alongside memorabilia from Saint Louis University soccer and other historic local teams. Every screen shows soccer from leagues around the world, including the Premier League, Champions League, MLS, and international competitions. On weekend mornings, the bar opens early for EPL matches, drawing fans of European clubs to fill the inside bar and the outdoor patio.

Amsterdam Tavern is the official home of the American Outlaws St. Louis chapter, founded in 2010 as the 29th chapter of the national USMNT supporter group. Every U.S. Men's and Women's National Team match draws a crowd here. During major tournaments like the World Cup, the bar has closed down Morganford Road for outdoor screenings, transforming the street into a block party.

Food, Drink, and the Dam Partnership

Amsterdam Tavern operates on a unique partnership model. The bar itself focuses on an excellent craft beer selection but does not serve food. Instead, The Dam, a neighboring restaurant literally next door, delivers food to Amsterdam Tavern patrons. The Dam produces great burgers and pub fare, while Amsterdam handles the beer. It is a symbiotic arrangement that lets each establishment do what it does best.

St. Louis Soccer Culture

Amsterdam Tavern's significance extends beyond watching matches. It is a living museum of St. Louis's deep soccer roots, a city that has produced 29 US National Soccer Hall of Fame members and 76 US Men's National Team players, including six members of the legendary 1950 squad that defeated England 1-0 at the World Cup. The bar is welcoming to dogs, and patrons can bring in outside food, creating the kind of relaxed, community-driven atmosphere that has made it a fixture in a city often called America's original soccer capital.
