2nd Shift Brewing sits on The Hill, St. Louis's historic Italian-American neighborhood, at 1601 Sublette Avenue. Founded in 2009 by husband-and-wife team Steve and Libby Crider in New Haven, Missouri, the brewery gets its name from Steve's career as a welder: when he moved to the first shift at his day job, the brewery became his second shift. In December 2016, 2nd Shift opened its tasting room on The Hill, becoming the storied neighborhood's first-ever brewery in an 18,000-square-foot space.
Brewligans: A Beer Born from Soccer
2nd Shift is the official brewing partner of the St. Louligans, St. Louis's original and longest-running soccer supporter group. The collaboration produced Brewligans, a Hazy New England-Style IPA featuring low bitterness with big citrusy aroma and flavor from Citra, Centennial, and Cascade hops. As 2nd Shift describes it, the Louligans "enjoy beer, we like making beer, we made them a beer to enjoy. A small hoppy one, so they can enjoy more soccer." During the St. Louis CITY SC playoff run, 2nd Shift served as a designated watch party location where Louligans gathered to support the team over pints of their namesake IPA.
