The Green Pig Pub

Established in 2009 by the experienced staff from the beloved Port O Call, The Green Pig has been voted best sports bar in SLC and is one of the city's most popular World Cup and Premier League viewing destinations. Located in the heart of downtown, it features 10 flatscreen TVs with all major sports packages, a classic pub setting downstairs, and an award-winning indoor/outdoor rooftop bar overlooking downtown architecture and the Rocky Mountains. Known for its eco-friendly ethos, accommodating vegan and gluten-free menus, and a packed entertainment calendar from Blues Jams to Drag Bingo.

About

The Green Pig Pub at 31 E 400 South in downtown Salt Lake City was founded in 2009 by Bridget Gordon, a veteran bartender who spent 12 years managing the beloved Port O' Call nightclub before it closed that same year. When Port O' Call shut its doors, Gordon — then nearly 50 — decided to open her own place rather than job-hunt in an industry that skews young. She mortgaged her house, sold her car and motorcycle, and completed construction in just ten weeks. Much of the furniture, glassware, and even the bar itself are relics salvaged from Port O' Call, giving the Green Pig a physical lineage to one of Salt Lake City's most iconic nightlife venues.

Rooftop Views and World Cup Energy

The Green Pig's signature feature is its award-winning indoor/outdoor rooftop bar, voted Best Patio by City Weekly, overlooking downtown Salt Lake City's architecture and the Rocky Mountains beyond. The rooftop is especially rare in Salt Lake, where closely spaced and connected buildings leave little room for outdoor bar patios. Downstairs, 10 flatscreen TVs carry all major sports packages, and the pub is recognized as one of Salt Lake City's premier World Cup and Premier League viewing destinations. During the 2014 and 2018 World Cups, the Green Pig drew packed crowds across both floors. As Salt Lake City builds toward the 2026 World Cup, the Green Pig's combination of downtown location, rooftop atmosphere, and established tournament-viewing reputation positions it as a likely hub for the global event.

Eco-Friendly and Inclusive

Gordon built the Green Pig with an eco-friendly ethos that was unusual for a dive bar in 2009 — recycled construction materials, low-flow water systems, passive solar windows, and comprehensive recycling programs. Former Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker praised the pub's environmental commitments at the grand opening. The food menu accommodates vegan and gluten-free diets, broadening the audience beyond the typical sports bar crowd. Weekly entertainment includes a Monday Blues Jam, Tuesday Drag Bingo, Thursday karaoke, Friday live music, and Sunday and Wednesday trivia nights. The Green Pig operates with 10 TVs rather than 30 or 40, making it a more intimate soccer viewing experience — you are watching with the room, not in a corner of a cavernous sports complex. For fans who value atmosphere, character, and a rooftop pint with mountain views over screen count, the Green Pig is hard to beat.
